Enkele weekjes geleden trok ik op vriendinnenweekend naar Rome. We zochten er vooral het zonnetje op, wat ontspanning en wat heerlijke pleintjes en terrasjes om bij te praten. Als je elk je eigen drukke leventje hebt dan is het soms moeilijk om vaak af te spreken. Tis daarom wel eens leuk om er gewoon eventjes op uit te trekken en een paar daagjes zo samen in een heerlijke stad als Rome rond te dolen.
We gingen dus niet naar Rome om in de ellenlange rijen voor het Vaticaans Museum of het Colosseum te gaan staan. Nee, we deden Rome 100% al fresco, tis te zeggen: van de buitenkant. Met het 100% boekje in de hand (mijn favoriete travelvriend tijdens elke citytrip) trokken we van gezellige buurt naar gezellige buurt, door kleine kronkelende straatjes en langs leuke pleinen. Al moet ik zeggen, zo twee meiden onder elkaar was het af en toe toch wel eens moeilijk om in deze wirwar onze weg te vinden 🙂 
Toch is Rome een superleuke stad om te voet te verkennen. De stad is en blijft sterk vergroeid met zijn enorm rijke geschiedenis en achter elke hoek schuilt wel iets verrassends. Eén van de leukste plekjes om even te verpozen was onder de sinaasappelbomen van de sinaasappeltuin (Giardino degli Aranci) bovenop de heuvel Aventijn. Niet alleen kan je er genieten van de heerlijke geur van de sinaasappelbloesems, je hebt er ook een magnifiek zicht op het oude centrum van de stad.
En dat je in Rome ook lekker kan eten, daarover ben je waarschijnlijk niet verbaasd. De Romeinse keuken staat of valt met goede, pure, verse ingrediënten en als je die samenbrengt kan er weinig mis gaan. Zo at ik goddelijke caprese met de lekkerste mozzarella – zo wat elastisch vanbuiten en romig zacht vanbinnen,- eenvoudige pizza met flinterdun deeg en heerlijk frisse ricotta en uiteraard ook verse pasta. 
Op een terrasje in Trastevere genoten we van een heerlijke pasta, supersimpel klaargemaakt met verse citroen, room en parmegianno. Soms moet je het ook niet nodeloos moeilijk maken toch? Ik weet niet hoe de Italiaanse chef het daar precies heeft klaargemaakt, maar na analyse door mijn eigen smaakpapilen en een experiment in mijn keukentje kwam ik tot een geslaagd recept om met jullie te delen. Hopelijk vinden jullie het even smaakvol smeuïg als ik!
Ik ben dus niet alleen volkomen ontspannen en ietsje bruiner uit Rome teruggekeerd, mijn hoofd zit ook vol inspiratie voor toekomstige goestjes. Laat ons zeggen dat het op vlak van lekker eten het perfecte voorsmaakje was voor onze reis deze zomer naar Italia. We gaan er op (culinaire) verkenning in Reggio Emilia, met steden als Modena, Parma en Bologna dé gastronomische regio van Italië. Wat kijk ik daar al naar uit, laat die zomer maar komen!
